What’s the difference between (C) and (O) Meetings?
Alcoholics Anonymous meetings come in two varieties – open and closed. Think of them as having a velvet rope, but in reverse! At Sponsor House, we offer both:
(C) Closed Meetings: These meetings are just for those who have a desire to stop drinking. They provide a safe space where attendees can share their struggles and triumphs with alcoholism openly and without reservation. Only those with a personal desire to overcome alcoholism are invited beyond the velvet rope into this innermost circle of support and fellowship at Sponsor House. Closed meetings allow members to go deeper into AA’s suggested program of recovery.
(O) Open Meetings: The Welcoming Embrace Sponsor House rolls out the red carpet for open meetings, welcoming anyone who wants to learn about Alcoholics Anonymous – whether they are alcoholic or not. Friends, family members, healthcare professionals, and the mildly curious are all warmly welcomed into these meetings. The focus is more general – sharing AA’s perspective on problems common to excessive drinking.
These open meetings at Sponsor House extend AA’s welcoming embrace to the nursing students from Westchester Medical Center School of Medicine. As future healthcare providers, their attendance provides a precious window into understanding how the power of AA helps millions reclaim their lives from the grips of alcoholism.
So whether you’re looking for that secure inner circle or want to get an insider’s glimpse into AA’s life-changing program, Sponsor House has a meeting for you. All paths lead to the same goal – finding hope, healing and a new way of living.
